The Mario Golf Association consists of 14 golfers from Mario Golf 64, who participate in various tournaments. While some of the records of past tournaments have been lost, the Mario Golf Association started anew in 2007 with four tournaments, called majors. In the six stroke-play tournaments, there are 4 rounds, with a cut after round 2 reducing the field to the top 7 players plus any players within 10 shots of the leader. Starting in 2014, there is a second cut after three rounds following the same protocol, but only in majors (in order to weed out players who have fallen out of contention). Starting in 2019, the third-round cut is implemented in all tournaments. Trophies are awarded according to finish; these include Gold, Silver and Bronze trophies. Only one Gold trophy is given out per tournament, with a sudden-death playoff taking place to break any tie between first-place finishers; however, multiple Silver or Bronze trophies will be given out if there are ties for 2nd or 3rd place.
